CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio - The City of Circleville reported a non-compliance incident to the Ohio EPA after exceeding its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit limit for oil and grease.

On July 1, 2025, monitoring showed oil and grease levels at 10.1 mg/L, slightly above the daily maximum limit of 10 mg/L. Officials cited high flow conditions and design problems with newly installed clarifier equipment as contributing factors.

The city says corrective measures are underway, including equipment redesign by Kokosing Construction. Follow-up testing in mid-July and August showed declining levels, with concentrations dropping below detection limits by Aug. 15.
