Ohio Village Faces EPA Drinking Water Violations

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The village of Kingston in Ross County is facing multiple violations from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) related to its drinking water supply.

According to a state agency report, the Kingston public water system failed to submit its 2024 Consumer Confidence Report and Certification Form, which was due by July 1, 2025. The village is also in violation for failing to issue a public notice for a previous total coliform monitoring violation.

Furthermore, the EPA cited the public water system for failing to collect lead and copper tap samples from approved sites during the first six months of 2025, despite receiving multiple reminders. The village also failed to report all required lead and copper tap information by the April 12, 2025 deadline.

These violations have significant implications for the community. The absence of a Consumer Confidence Report means residents lack crucial information about the quality of their drinking water. The failure to test for lead and copper is particularly concerning, as elevated levels of these substances can pose serious health risks, especially to children. Additionally, the lack of public notice for a coliform violation prevents residents from being informed about potential health threats.

Residents are advised to contact village officials for updates on the required testing and to ask that the public notices be issued as soon as possible.
