LEIPSIC, OH - The Environmental Protection Agency has issued a Notice of Violation to Leipsic Village after an inspection uncovered significant deficiencies in the town’s water treatment system, raising concerns over long-standing compliance failures.
The Ohio EPA’s sanitary survey, conducted on April 29, identified serious issues in the village’s public water system, including outdated infrastructure, missing well cap bolts, and improper logbook records. The agency has ordered Leipsic officials to submit a corrective action plan within 30 days.
One of the most pressing concerns is the village’s aging water treatment plant, which has failed multiple inspections since 2022. A new surface water membrane treatment plant is scheduled for completion by June 2029, but Ohio EPA is requiring progress reports every six months until the facility is operational.
Failure to address these violations could result in penalties or a mandatory public advisory under Tier 2 notification regulations, alerting residents to risks in their drinking water. The EPA has emphasized the importance of compliance and urged the village to submit an updated progress report by July 10.
For now, residents are left wondering whether their water system—flagged for issues three years in a row—will finally receive the upgrades necessary to ensure safe drinking water.
