Anduril among firms shortlisted for U.K. Apache drone program

LONDON — Anduril Industries is among seven companies shortlisted by the U.K. Ministry of Defence in a competition to develop drones designed to operate alongside Apache attack helicopters under a program known as Project NYX.

The Defence Ministry announced Jan. 24 that Anduril, along with BAE Systems, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin UK, Syos, Tekever and Thales, will move forward in the next phase of the program and present their design proposals.

The field is expected to be narrowed again in March, when research-and-development contracts are anticipated to be awarded.

Project NYX aims to advance autonomous systems capable of flying in coordination with the British Army’s Apache helicopters, expanding surveillance and operational capabilities.

“Project NYX represents the cutting edge of the Defense Industrial Strategy, working with leading British industry partners to ensure the U.K. remains at the forefront of autonomous military technology,” Luke Pollard, minister for defense readiness and industry, said in a statement.

The Ministry of Defence did not disclose the projected cost of the program or a timeline for deployment.
